Welcome to Eckington First School

Our Millennium Wood on Bredon Hill

On a cold windy day in January 2000 Eckington C.E first school trudged up Bredon Hill (about 1 mile away) to plant our Millennium Wood. Class 1 were able to travel by bus but all the rest of us had to walk.

When we reached our planting land one of our parents explained what we were to do and he handed out our oak saplings and we chose where we going to plant our trees.
Counsellor Wright then opened the wood and cut the ribbon. Mr Thomas our vicar and school governor blessed the ground. We had our lunch on the hill and then went to explore. Whilst we were on the hill one of our prospective parents arranged for a Chinook helicopter to fly overhead and hover just near the wood; they also took photos of us and it was very exciting. It was finally time to make the long journey back to school, tired and exhausted after our fun day out.
Each year the new intake and the year 5's will go back to Bredon Hill and plant trees for the new intake.
The whole school enjoys our trips to Bredon Hill and we look forward to a picnic in our wood every summer.
