Welcome to Eckington First School

Take a look at our outside play area

The Pond

The pond is next to our wildlife area. A few weeks ago Class 3 found a family of newts. We put them in some water and looked at them, then let them back into the pond. It has some other wildlife too including water spiders, water boatman, dragonflies and even a family of ducks.

Sensory Garden

This was designed and built by the children (with Bob Green's help!) in June 2008 and is used everyday by all the children.

Our Conker Tree

The conker tree has been here for years and years. It is in the middle of our hard play area. The tree gives us lots of shade on sunny days and in the autumn we all like to collect the conkers.
Our Playing Field

Our playing field is very big. It Stretches from the conifers down to Class 1's playarea. We have recently added some small huts with seating inside which can be many different things for playtime. The field also has goalposts for football games and is also used for rounders, cricket, sports circus and FUN.

The large shelter at the top of the playground is used during lessons and at playtime.

The area to the right of the shelter is being developed as part of Forest School and is roped off at present as some more new trees have just been planted.

Bouncy Bridge

Our grounds are developing all the time and at Easter 2002 we were very pleased with the addition of a woodchip pathway and a bouncy bridge. The path runs all around the playing field and the bridge is by the pond. We are able to play on these in all weathers.
The Train

Our train arrived in September 2002 and was an instant hit with the whole school. It was so popular at the beginning that we had to draw up a rota for playing on it!!
Willow Structure

In December 2002 we began work on a willow structure that we can play in. We helped to plant the willows and also to weave them as they started to grow.
